The Diving Bell Date Posted: 17:31:34 02/19/02 Tue Author: Karl
Dear David,
Here is "The Diving Bell". It was simple. Unpause track 1 of Pink Floyd's "The Division Bell" when you see ripples in the water just before the water worm shows up in "The Abyss" Special Edition (171 min). Then play track 10 "Lost For Words". After 10 finishes, play 2 through 9 back to back and skip to track 11. The synchronism of the lyrics is weak but the music follows the movie very well. All the weird sounds synch and are accounted for.
Try it. You'll like it. Karl Tune 29 January 2002
Abysmal Division Date Posted: 17:44:05 02/19/02 Tue Author: Karl
Dear David,
I call my second choice for synching "The Division Bell" with "The Abyss" "The Abysmal Division". I feel the synching of the lyrics was slightly better but who wants to program their CD player for all this jumping around on the
CD?
Use the Special Edition (SE) of "The Abyss" with a
restored 28 minutes. It is @171 long. The Short Version (SV) is @140 min long. Unpause track 1 when the water ripples just before the water worm shows up. Turn the sound all the way up. Turn it back down when it gets too loud.
Track order as follows: 1,2,3,10,7,4,8,5,6,9,11,and 5 again.
Here are my notes minus any spoilers:
1. Works great
2. SE is 1 second too fast. SV matched much better with "play these strings until my fingers are raw"
3. Beginning slightly off but still works. End of song door opening sound 1 sec too late but bird noise works very well. Bird noise did not match aything in SV. Very end lyrics do not match so good. At this point, the timing between SE and SV drastically different.
10. Mystery door sound not attached to anything in the movie. Lyrics do fine.
7. Not certain
4.
8.
5.
6.
9. seems off a little
11. Works well
5. Should match well with SV ending not with SE ending unless you wait till people are walking on the surface to play it.
Sincerely,
Karl Tune

Dawn of Ummagumma Man Date Posted: 19:29:32 02/28/02 Thu
Author: Karl
Dear Readers,
Great googly moogly, here is the missing link between Pink Floyd and 2001: A Space Odyssey. I call this synchronism "The Dawn of Ummagumma Man". This is what the common denominator of music and humanity sounds like. To
experience this barrel full of monkeys, you need the studio version CD of "Ummagumma". Unpause track #1 as soon as the MGM logo appears at the beginning of 2001: A Space Odyssey. Play "Sysyphus parts I-IV" then skip to "Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and
Grooving with a Pict". Continue with "Narrow Way part
I-III", "The Grand Vizer's Garden Party Entrance, Entertainment, and Exit". Then play track # 5 "Grantchester Meadows". Follow this with the live part of "Ummagumma" songs "Astronomy Domine", "Careful with that Axe Eugene",
"Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun", and "Saucerful of Secrets". The music ends at the intermission.
The trick is to pause the movie between songs. When the CD timer shows negative time(no sound), pause the movie and resume playing the movie when the CD timer hits zero. You are now a scientist extracting extraneous DNA from the music genome to create a better synch. This group of hard working
and creative minstrels named Pink Floyd will further evolve. They will use their adaptive minds to assimilate other movies. We have met Ummagumma and they are us.
Sincerely,
Karl Tune

Momentary Mother of all Meddles with 2001 Date Posted: 17:32:00 03/10/02 Sun
Author: Karl
Dear Reader,
Welcome to an alternate reality. You have been sucked into the Pink Floyd 2001 Odyssey I call "A Momentary Mother of all Meddles with 2001". This synchronism uses "2001:A Space Odyssey" Collectors Edition with the intermission included. It covers the entire movie. Every thing is harmonious but the end is up to you.
Unpause track 1 of "A Momentary Lapse of Reason" when MGM logo fades to black at the beginning of the movie. Play tracks in this order: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 6a, 10, 7, 8, and 9. This synch "A Momentary Lapse of 2001 Space
Odyssey" was discovered by David Swain of the web site "Unusual Synchs". Note Track 10 follows 6a.
To cover the middle of "2001", play "Atom Heart Mother". Play tracks in this scrambled order: 5, 2, 3, 4, and 1. I call this synch "Jupiter Mission Mother". It seems to be more of a mood synch. I recommend fixing bacon, eggs, and toast to eat with orange juice while watching the beginning of this synch. You have been invited to breakfast. It will be a synchronism of the five senses. Sight, sound, smell, touch, and taste. I tried it like this in the morning and it was very satisfying!
To finish out the movie, play "Meddle" tracks 1 and 6. Then you have a choice for the finale. You can play track 2, 3, or 4. Tracks 2 and 3 lyrics end at the same critical point. 4's music ends a little short. Track 5 does not seem to synch at all at this point in the movie. I call this synch "Meddle Beyond the Infinite". This version of "Echoes" is closer to the traditional "Jupiter and Beyond the Infinite" starting point.
You need a programmable CD player to do this well. The CD player will fight you if you do a manual manipulation. Some tracks will not skip ahead. Some tracks send you to the next CD the instant they finish. So program the player. Now all you have to do is sit back and enjoy
this wonderful symbiosis of music and movie. It is the Mother of all Synchronisms.
Sincerely,
Karl Tune

Wish You Were Dave Date Posted: 17:56:35 02/19/02 Tue

Dear David,
I was trying your top choice for "Wish You Were Here after the 2001 Intermission" synch. After reading the lyrics to the music, I changed the order of the songs and found a strong synchronicity.
I call it "Wish You Were Dave" to honor you, David of "Unusual Synchs", for getting the ball rolling on this idea. What a coincidence that there is a Dave in the 2001 movie. Start Track 2 "Welcome to the Machine" of "Wish You Were Here" about 2 seconds after the word "ENTR'ACTE"
disapperas from the intermission screen but the ship has not shown up yet. It may take a few false starts to get it right. The first twenty seconds should confirm your timing. Play the following tracks back to back. 3,4,1,5.
I tried a few other ideas, all which had synch moments but the above one takes the cake.
I like this synch better than "JABTI-Echoes" because I like the music. The symbolism is complete in "Wish You Were Dave" as you could probably sense. You tried a couple of start times. "Bad Seamus Rising 2001" is better yet.
Thank you for posting "Bad Seamus Rising 2001" and "A Momentary Wish to Meddle with 2001" in your synch section "e-mail ideas from others"
Sincerely,
Karl Tune

...................TOP SECRET DOCUMENT...................
...................OPERATION: OCTOPUSSY CLUB.............
Addressing Agent: Naughty Nine (009)
Assignment: Harmonize Tangerine Dream's "Goblin's Club" with the James Bond movie "Octopussy"
Starting Point: Unpause track #1 of "Goblin's Club" as soon as you see James Bond outside the building after he melts the metal bars to his detention room in the movie "Octopussy." This is a strait play of tracks 1 through 8. An easy walk in the park. You can also unpause track #1 of "Goblin's Club" as soon as the MGM lion fades completely out. This again is a strait play of tracks 1-8. This does not synchronize as well but delivers you to the aforementioned start time which does synchronize well.
Background Check:2 available.
#1.Tangerine Dream is a German Electronic Music Group considered by some to be New Age. The music does not force you to make any decisions. "Goblins' Club" was released in 1996.
#2.The James Bond movie "Octopussy" was released in 1983. It involves a traveling circus going from India to Germany with a nuclear bomb and a Faberga emerald sphere.
The Clues: Divulged on a need to know basis. Since Bond movies do not have much music, you do not have to mute the movie often.
Risks: If you fail, you will suffer Humiliation and Death. There will be Armageddon on Earth. I will disown you.
At Stake: The World
Rewards: You save the Earth. Members of the opposite sex give you their hotel room key.
Disclaimer: Should you be captured or leak the name of this operation to the press, I will claim no knowledge or responsibility.

Dear Patient,
I am glad you finally visited my office for a full psychological evaluation. These records show that you are having some kind of breakdown. Our Psychiatric Ward is fully staffed and ready to see to your every need. Lie down on the comfy couch and we will find out what seems to be the problem?
Oh? You think you are a Korean War veteran and have ringing in your ears. You believe you were captured and brain washed. You have reoccurring nightmares but you cannot remember what they are about? You have an oppressive mother who doesn’t approve of your girl friend. Where is your father. Oh! You have a stepfather is too busy running for political office to pay you any mind. Any one of these could drive you into the dark recesses of the imagination.
Let me consult with Dr. Carl Jung for a moment. After consulting with my colleague, we have arrived at an exact diagnosis. You have a deep malady of the mind. You suffer from the idiosyncrasy I call "The Manchurian Brick." You are trying to relive the misery of the movie "The Manchurian Candidate" combined with the afflicted music of Pink Floyd’s "The Wall."
There are two possible starting points for "The Manchurian Brick" illness which you need to be aware of.
Starting point 1:
Unpause track 3 "Another Brick I" of "The Wall" when "UA" fades to black after a Unidentified Flying Object (UFO) flies across it leaving 3 streaks across the letter "A". Then pause it a few seconds later when "Exclusive Interview after the movie" is talked about (It makes me ballistic that this was stuck here). Start track 3 again when the screen goes black again. "Korea" should be the next word you see.
Starting point 2:
Fireflies gather to spell out "United Artists." After the final "s" is completed, a white flash from the corner of the "U" whites out entire the screen. This is where you unpause track 3 "Another Brick I" of "The Wall."
From either starting point, "Korea" should be the next word you see. Next play, from the same CD, songs 4 through 10.
Then play track 1 "Hey You" through 13 on the other CD.
Then go back to the original CD and play track 1 "In The Flesh?" and then track 2. Follow it with track 11 "Don't Leave Me Now" through 13 of the same CD.
After doing all this, it is no wonder you are falling apart. As your doctor, I order you to stay away from synchronicity for a week. Take some of these M&M's every day and call me the following week. You should see a rapid improvement of your health.
The Doctor was out, I was filling in.

Perpetual Invastion of the Body Snatchers Date Posted: 11:16:18 04/27/02 Sat
Author: Karl
Dear Viewer,
Grab your car keys and ride over to the mass hysteria of the Harmonic Drive In Theater. Tonight's feature is what I call "Perpetual Invasion of the Body Snatchers." This fantastic idea bears a striking resemblance to the 1955 Sci-Fi classic "Invasion of the Body Snatchers." It is the movie but it is not the movie. The actors are the ones we know and love. Only the music score has been improvised.. Improved. I chose the 1986 pulsing fire and brimstone, industrial rock of Skinny Puppy's "Mind: The Perpetual Intercourse." Don't be startled. Don't call the police. Don't be afraid. For the next 80 minutes, the big screen will absorb your attention and mind. Don't worry. The process is harmless. Just eat your popcorn and be quiet. You shouldn't take a dim view of your own destruction. When morning comes, you will wake up and feel all right.
Here is how to engage in this curious epidemic where unreality becomes reality. Unpause track #1 "One Time One Place" of Skinny Puppy's "Mind: The Perpetual Intercourse" as soon as you see the Dr. Myles Barnel's car headlights, after you hear the following three lines. In the doctor's office, the kid smiles at his mom, "Mommy, why don't we go home?" The nurse says, "He's certainly made a quick recovery." Dr. Myles Barnel replies, "I guess we all have" as he looks out the window.
It is a straight play of the album. Just pause the movie in between songs.
All it takes is replacing a worn out scrip. Who wants to hear an actor ramble, "I don't know. I don't know. A mutation of some kind. What ever intelligence or instinct that governs the forming of flesh and bone out of thin air is fantastically powerful, beyond any comprehension. Malignant! All that body in the cellar needed was a mind... and it was taking mine while I was asleep!"
Haven't they heard of television?
Now we are inspired with Skinny Puppy's poetry. "Intolerant of all that's been done. Built up for a future race that's never won faith from God. Meet the maker's face. A distant book in time. Forever hate that mind's blown fuse which shortens with man's progression. Decipher what's relative. Legal bureaucrat motions with a tender finger, chooses, popping these. And yours will be next. Man in a cave. Further action left it, that two gaping holes. A dripping carnivore. Nature's regret. Love all things so brutalized. An enemy that needed not. What a way to end the game!"
This is knowledge dispensed with crystal clarity. Skinny Puppy's insight makes sense of our alien intolerant society in this movie. Can't we all just get along? The pulse of the music makes me feel like time is running out. Why do men, woman, and children fight these aliens who mean us no harm? Are we the enlightened society? Destroying what we cannot comprehend? Why are we so phobic of the unknown? Skinny Puppy refers to the alien pods as "God's Gift" in track #2.
The Mind is a Strange and Wonderful Place,

.........CODE NAME: VISION OF THE LIVING DAYLILY......
Addressing Agent: Naughty Nine (009)
Assignment: Harmonize Tangerine Dream's "Lily on the Beach" and "Optical Race" with the James Bond movie "The Living Daylights"
Starting Point: Unpause track #1 of "Lily on the Beach" as soon as "UA" fades to black after a meteor(?) flies across it leaving 3 or 4 streaks across the letter "A".
play of tracks 1 through 13. Start "Optical Race" when James Bond's assassination target is viewed from inside hotel room # 17 where the lady is waiting. "Optical Race" is also a straight play 1 through 10.
Background Check:2 available.
#1.Tangerine Dream is a German synthesized music group considered by some to be New Age. It has a calculated movement to it just like Bond. "Optical Race" was released in 1988. "Lily on the Beach" was released in 1989. Since Bond movies do not have much music, you do not have to mute the movie often.
#2.The James Bond movie "The Living Daylights" was released in 1987. It involves Bond teaming up with a Female Czech cellist to eliminate 3 bad guys. Two of whom survive which is unusual for a Bond Film. 002 and 004 are extinguished in the movie.
The Clues: Divulged on a need to know basis.
Risks: If you fail, you will suffer humiliation and be stuck in some war torn country. I will disown you.
At Stake: Government Stability
Previous attempts: "Optical Race" does not work at all if starting when "Tangier" flashes on the screen.
Setbacks: "Twenty-Nine Palms" is an elegant piano piece which does not match the fight scene. It needs to switched to another part of the movie. "Optical Race" seems a little too happy for the end of this movie
Rewards: You kick ass. Members of the opposite sex think you are the best.

Dear Reader,
Sit back and relax. We will play "2001: A Space Odyssey" to the music of Kitaro's 1985 album "Ki." Let your mind wander and drift off into the distance. Let the slow rhythm ease your tension. You will forget your hectic day behind when you travel the road I call "2001 Ki."
It is a straight play of the album. Pause "ENTRACTE" when it turns to black. Unpause the movie when you hear twinkling sound from "Revelation." Pause the movie when sound from "Oasis" ends. Flip the album over and unpause the movie again when you hear sound from "Sun." Play straight through the end of "Clouds in the Sky."
Let the warm mist of music welcome you to the farthest reaches of time and space.

Dear Marine Biologist,
There has been a reported sighting of a unique creature at the bottom of the ocean. The fully staffed research vessel has been reserved . So secure your funding and round up your sampling equipment. We are diving to locate the "Ray of the Abyss."
This beast has been sighted in the benthic zones between the extended version of 1989 movie "The Abyss" and Madonna’s 1998 album "Ray of Light." Pause the movie when rat boy completely opens the door to see Garfield at the window, and the empty table where the nuclear warhead used to be. Pause when you see Garfield at this moment. This is after the water worm. Program your CD player to play tracks 1-11, 13, and 12. Pause "Ray of Light" at 0:00 of track one. Then simultaneously hit play of the movie and CD.
With scientific method we should be able to reproduce the sighting of this electric creature. Bring your cameras and video recorders. And please remember to have fresh batteries this time.
